A Sandpoint reader asked a good question the other day. She asked "I recently switched from Word Perfect to Word. In WP I had an icon on my regular toolbar that took me to graphics and it was fairly easy to add any feature, shortcut, or macro I desired to the toolbar. But there isn't any clip art (or graphics/picture) on the Word toolbar. I've read the Help menu and experimented with the instructions they give for adding a feature to the tool bar, but have had no success in doing so. Any suggestions?"
Many people think that their application software can't be changed. Not true. There are two answers to this question. In Word, the easiest thing you can do is show the Picture toolbar, which has the Insert Picture command on it. To do that, choose ViewToolbars and click to put a checkmark next to Picture. The little yellow button is Insert Picture. (If they aren't showing, you may want to turn on "ScreenTips" which are the little yellow text that pops up and says what each button does --- I love them because I can never remember which button does what.) To show ScreenTips, choose View|Toolbars|Customize. Click the option Tab and put a checkmark next to Show ScreenTips on toolbars.
The larger answer is that you can put any Word command onto any toolbar or create your own new toolbars with all your favorite commands on them. Choose Tools|Customize command. Click the Commands tab and select a category. Next, drag the button to the toolbar you want to modify. If you change your mind, you can drag the buttons back off the toolbar to remove them. You can rearrange the buttons by dragging them into a new position. Be careful when dragging and dropping buttons -- if you drag one button on top of an existing button, Word thinks you are replacing the button, which may or may not be what you intended to do.
