Holiday Cheer

by Susan DaffronProtected by Copyscape. Do not copy.

This week I got all the Christmas presents for my family wrapped and sent off. Thanks to the U.S. Post Office delivery confirmation service, I even know that the stuff arrived. I have to say that I find the ability to track packages online tremendously empowering. Like they say, knowledge is power.

In other news, we still have a strange absence of snow. At our elevation, we have maybe 3/4 of an inch on the ground, so at least it is festively white out there. But in town, there is absolutely nothing. It's really strange, especially when you consider that a few years ago we had SIX feet of snow sitting on the ground by mid-December. That year, we had a six-foot high chain link dog kennel set up outside that completely disappeared for months. (As an aside, heavy snow  does not do good things to chain link fencing.)

Lest anyone be confused, I'm not complaining about the lack of snow. We never ski in December anyway and I had to drive into town a lot this month. Driving in scary conditions is no fun, largely because I stress inordinately about sliding. I prefer to be in control of where my car is going, so, I go really, really slowly to avoid any unexpected sideways motion. Of course this driving approach irritates all the macho dudes in the huge Suburbo-truck-hummer-tank-mobiles. But hey, safety first, I say.

And on that happy note, I wish everyone lots of holiday cheer. Peace on earth and good will to everyone!
