The LEI Publication Manager was at the forefront of our computing experience this week. Basically, it's ASP (application service provider) software we created that lets people easily create a database-driven Web site for periodicals. For publishers who have lots of content, it can save an amazing amount of time and money. Because the software is leased, people don't have to pay huge programming costs or pay a web designer every time they need to add an article to their site. All they have to do is copy and paste articles into a form in their Web browser.
A local business journal is probably writing an article on the software, so we had to get it ready to show the reporter. I put all my old pet care articles into the Publication manager for a "demo" site. If you go to http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com and click Pet Tales...there they are. Twas quite a little walk down amnesia lane for me since I wrote the last column more than a year ago.
At the demo site, people can also log in with a "Guest" account to see how the "behind the scenes" article and site management works. It's really easy...it only took me about 4 hours to set up the Pet Tales site, which has 80 articles. (Yes, that's about 3 minutes per article...try doing *that* with HTML.)
James taught his first Doing Business on the Web class this week, so we got all the courseware together. The laser printer has really been getting a workout. The class covered a tremendous amount of information so we handed out 28-page packets to attendees. Armed with all that reference material, we hope people will get more out of the class.
So it was a nerdy week. In non-nerdy matters, the Mouse Police struck again. During dinner one evening, we noticed one terribly PROUD member of the Mouse Police wandering by with a long tail hanging out of her mouth. (Eww!) Rodents are always a sure way to spoil my appetite. So yet another mousie is taking a small vacation out in the meadow.
